Visitors’ Guide to St. Petersburg Golf Courses

FORE! Golfers, take note: Thanks to Florida’s fantastic year-round climate and abundant green space, the state is a downright duffer’s paradise. Planning on hitting the links during your visit? We have a few recommendations for fantastic St. Petersburg golf courses you’ll want to check out while you’re here.

Mangrove Bay Golf Course

Mangrove Bay is a beautifully maintained 18-hole/par-72 public course on the eastern edge of the metro, nestled on 180 acres of waterfront. It’s especially popular with visitors due to its gorgeous scenery, USGA-grade greens, and the diverse array of colorful native birds that make their home near the fairways. The rates are affordable, there’s a well-socked on-site snack bar, and the pace of play is leisurely. Maybe that’s why Golf Digest called it one of Florida’s best places to play.

Cypress Links Golf Course

The sister course to Mangrove Bay is located adjacent to it, but offers an entirely different experience. As a more family-friendly course, Cypress Links provides a breezy (but still challenging) 9-hole round that’s well-suited to players of all skill levels. The course also hosts many tournaments, league play and a top-flight pro shop. Cart and club rentals are available as well, so you’re guaranteed a great day out when you visit.

Twin Brooks Golf Course

Twin Brooks is something of a well-kept locals’ secret. It’s tucked away in a quiet residential district, so it’s easy to miss if you aren’t headed there specifically. But once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a playful 9-hole/par-3 course complete with practice greens and driving range. Refreshments, a pro shop, and PGA-certified instruction is also available on-site. If you plan to play, tee-times can be reserved up to a week in advance.

Dunedin Golf Club

Award-winning Dunedin Golf Club is an absolute gem. First opened in 1927, Dunedin was the original headquarters course of the PGA for nearly 20 years, and has hosted countless champion tourneys ever since. Some of the biggest names ever to have swung a club have braved these holes, and once you get an eyeful of the stunning grounds, you’ll see why. Be sure to stop by and grab some souvenirs at the pro shop, and a bite to eat at the Fairway Grille on your way out.

Tarpon Springs Golf Course

First opened in 1907 and still going strong today, the fun yet challenging 18-hole/par-72 Tarpon Springs reigns as one of the region’s most historic courses, and the longest-running in the state. But that’s not to say you should expect an old-fashioned experience. The course has recently undergone extensive upgrades to the greens, tee boxes and driving range. You can also expect a convenient snack bar, and pro shop.

Mainlands Golf Course

The family-owned and operated Mainlands is another of the area’s best undercover treasures, being as it’s surrounded on all sides by a residential housing area. Because of the semi-hidden nature of the grounds, this course is usually overlooked by visitors — meaning that rates are affordable, and tee times are usually readily available. Which is fantastic, since you won’t find a more varied array of play anywhere in the area. Several par-3, -4 and even -5 holes dot the links, but approaches are famously fair. Don’t miss it!
