RumFish Grill's Tanked Aquarium
The crew on Animal Planet’s Tanked designed, built and installed the 33,500-gallon aquarium in 90 days on national television. The tank was the largest and most challenging the crew had ever built. On Mondays, you can still catch a lot of action as two divers scrub the tank from top to bottom. Did you know that 2,400 pounds of salt is mixed monthly to create this exhibit?
Predator Tank and Lionfish Invasion
In the RumFish Grill bar, the notorious 700-gallon Predator Tank showcases Lionfish. This non-Florida species, native to the Pacific region and the Red Sea, has begun to invade the area, consuming and displacing other species. Lionfish can be eaten, so this exhibit educates diners to request lionfish at seafood restaurants to create growing demand.
Juvenile & Middle School Tanks
Drop by the Juvenile Tank, a 700-gallon Florida aquarium at RumFish Grill. This tank is home to Florida species, some of which will graduate to the Tanked aquarium. The tank also emphasizes the importance of mangroves as nursery grounds for young fish.
Visit the Middle School Tank in the Outfitter shop inside the RumFish Beach Resort hotel. When these Floridian fish outgrow the Juvenille Tank, many are moved to this tank, preparing for their move to the large tank. This tank is 400 gallons and sits near the Touch Tank experience.
Educational Wall and Tank Viewing
As you explore the tanks, drop by the educational wall at RumFish Grill, lined with plaques offering information about the marine life inside the tanks. All of the tanks, with an exception of the Predator Tank, feature fish that are indigenous to Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
